Harvest Experience & Farm Tour at SHO Farm

Harvest Experience

You are welcome to experience harvesting seasonal vegetables and fruits firsthand.
For first-time visitors and anyone who may be uncertain, our staff will be on hand to accompany and guide you through the experience as needed.
In addition to the harvest experience, we can also arrange events that include a curated take-home vegetable gift set, as well as cooking experiences over a traditional wood-fired stove.
For groups of 10 or more, please get in touch to discuss what you have in mind, your approximate budget, and any other preferences — we will tailor a program to suit your needs.

— How to Get in Touch —

→ When harvest season approaches, we will announce upcoming harvest experience events on our social media.
Please apply using the dedicated event form listed in the announcement.

  • For groups of 10 or more
→ Please contact us directly by email to discuss the details.
  • Spring (late March – mid-April)
    Bamboo Shoot Digging Experience
In the season of new growth, as the cherry blossom front sweeps across the country, bamboo shoots begin to push their way up through the earth in the bamboo grove.
As the Japanese saying goes, "bamboo shoots after rain" — once they break through the surface, they shoot up with remarkable speed.
Bamboo is among the fastest-growing plants in the world, so the available window for this experience may shift slightly from year to year.
Fresh bamboo shoots, if parboiled to remove bitterness as soon as possible after digging, can be stored in the refrigerator for about a week with daily water changes — and can also be frozen.
Once you've spotted and dug up your first shoot, you'll find yourself hooked — wanting to find more and more. The flavor, too, is something truly special.
The digging itself will have you feeling warm and energized before you know it.
Our staff will accompany you and walk you through how to find bamboo shoots, how to dig them up, and how to prepare and store them — so first-time participants can join with complete confidence.
Please note that harvested vegetables are available for purchase separately.

  • Early Summer (late May – mid-June)
    Raspberry Picking Experience
Come and harvest raspberries grown to their fullest under SHO Farm's no-till cultivation method.
At this perennially popular event, you'll pick fresh raspberries to take home with you. (Tasting included.)
Please wear long sleeves and long trousers, as raspberry canes have thorns.
As these are natural crops, please note that the event may be cancelled if the raspberries run out earlier than expected. We appreciate your understanding.

  • Autumn (around October)
    Sweet Potato Digging Experience
Take a leisurely stroll to the sweet potato field, enjoy digging up potatoes and pulling vines, and say hello to Ikkyu — the farm's beloved pig and a firm favourite with visitors.
At past events, we have also set up a fire to roast the freshly dug sweet potatoes, creating an immersive experience where you can savour the bounty of the farm with all your senses.
Harvested vegetables are available for purchase separately.

    Soybean Harvest Experience
While not a common offering, we can also arrange a full-cycle soybean experience — from sowing to harvest — for those who are interested.
One local nursery school has an ongoing program in which the children sow soybeans in SHO Farm's fields, then bring the harvested beans back to their school to make miso and soy sauce. (A separate field usage fee applies.)
    Please contact us for details.

  • Winter (around December – January)
    Daikon Radish Digging Experience
Come and harvest daikon radishes that have put down deep roots through no-till cultivation, soaking up sweetness over the winter months.
You'll encounter impressive varieties such as Miura daikon and Nerima daikon — thick, long, and sometimes wonderfully twisted into the most unexpected shapes.
As the content of this experience depends on planting and harvest conditions, please contact us to discuss the details.

Vineyard Pergola — Private Event Hire

Completed in April 2025, our grape pergola features a rain-cover and heat-shielding roof, making it a versatile outdoor space that can be used in all weather — whether as a working area, event venue, or for a wide range of other purposes.

The pergola is built using a scissor truss structure — a method typically found in large buildings with high ceilings such as gymnasiums — combined with traditional timber joinery, achieving a design that is as beautiful as it is functional.

Around the pergola, we have also installed a bio-geo filter system to manage water flow — channeling rainwater away from the interior of the structure while using the natural power of plants to handle drainage organically. This reflects a permaculture-inspired design philosophy.

We welcome a wide range of events under the pergola — from book clubs and seasonal craft workshops to music sessions and talk events, and much more.

To make an inquiry, please contact us via the inquiry form on our website or by email, including your preferred date, a description of the event, and the expected number of attendees.

We can also discuss the option of using our traditional wood-fired stove as an add-on — please feel free to inquire.
